Steve's Mini Cooper S

Steve is just one of our cooooolest customers.  This guy brought his Mini to us looking for satellite radio and possible audio upgrades.  'Did he get upgraded?!

And there she is.  She's a beauty, and an "S" as well, which, with BMW and Porsche typically means "Sport Package".  This is a Mini, but it's more BMW than anything else.  The design and layout, the dash, definitely a distinctive Mini look.  The S models used to be supercharged a few years ago, but now they're turbocharged I believe.

Carl managed to build a nice, compact and shallow subwoofer cabinet, utilizing a Kenwood Excelon shallow mount subwoofer (we've had really good results with these-perhaps 200 sold in the last few years!)  A nice Audison 4 channel LRX4.5 amplifier runs everything.

There is also a fabricated custom cover panel that covers the amp and subwoofer.  It is comprised of steel mesh in a wood frame with unbacked carpeting over the entire surface.  The air moves and the subwoofer is unhindered in its efforts to make clean, tight, high quality bass music, with kick drums, electric bass and all instruments reproduced accurately and effortlessly in this little hatchback!

How's this for a slightly scary sight?  Be aware that many modern cars, especially the European ones, often have a fiberoptic MOST bus system, don't let any idiot work on this stuff in your car-let us (idiots) or someone else qualified to avoid causing expensive, extensive, and expensive damage to your car.  Did I mention expensive?  And once such damage occurs, your car may be flagged in the computers of all dealer service departments for your brand-so they'll keep a watchful eye on whether warranty is affected by prior damage/repairs.

Here's one last shot of the trunk with the new protective cover in place.  The Audison Bit One is off to the left.  Steve also went with some nice Hertz Hi Energy component speakers in his front doors.  This car sounds really, really good.

Here's one more "fun" shot of the trunk with much of the interior stripped out from the rear seats back.  These cars are very very particular about how you route cabling, it's very easy to achieve unstoppable engine noise or alternator whine in these cars due to the extensive number of "noisy" electronic components and associated wiring found throughout these and most European cars; BMW, Porsche, MBZ, Aston Martin, Ferrari, Lamborghini, etc.

Hey Steve, it's great working with you, thank you for the business and allowing us to work our magic in your car!  Carl, you did great work, once again, as well as Tony-who once again helped considerably on this job!
