2007 Dodge Ram

We upgraded the indash headunit for our buddy Jeff a couple of years ago with a nice Kenwood double din DDX812, with the navigation style dash/radio bezel from the dealer.  We also installed a backup camera to help him back up safely and hook up to his trailer.

Here's Jeff's nice big 4x4 Ram in our shop.  Carl is sitting at the wheel on a Sunday morning when he and I (Rod) finished it in time for Jeff to take on a trip.  I stayed up late the previous night to finish the A-Pillars, which Carl fabricated to house the midrange and tweeter of a Hertz Hi Energy HSK163 3-way component set, with 6.5" woofers in each door location.

Here's one picture showing the finished custom A Pillars we built.  The challenge was getting a position that was symmetrical on both sides, good for imaging, and finishing these trim pieces to match the interior.  These A Pillar trim panesl were textured from the factory with obvious casting seams, all of which was sanded and filled for a smooth finish, then they were painted to match the original color.  'lots of shaping and sanding was required, high build primer, and finally a finish and speakers were mounted.

Here's another picture showing the driver side A pillar, before the screw cap was installed near the grab handle.  These were a tight fit, and tons of work, but rewarding in terms of sound quality and imaging.

Here you can see the two Alpine PDX amplifiers installed behind the rear seat, still allowing full function of the storage compartment beneath them.  The custom subwoofer enclosure houses a single JL Audio 10W3 10" sub, and instead of a basic box we added some fiberglass and foam to add contours to the front of it.  All of this is hidden when the rear seat is in the upright position.

Here's a final parting shot of Jeff's truck from the rear before he picked it up.  Thank you again for the business Jeff, thanks for entrusting us to setup a rocking system in your truck!
