Ford Ranger
| I owned this "Bright Aqua" '92 Ranger STX longer than
any other vehicle I've owned, over 4.5 years! It is a 3.0 liter V6, 5 speed, 3.73 limited
slip axle, and has tons of performance mods. I put 90,000 miles on this thing, and
thousands of dollars and time in the suspension, engine, and stereo upgrades. I'm glad that my brother Tim bought it from me, because I'd hate to just sell this truck to just "anyone" with everything that I've put into it. It's a neat little truck, with a very healthy sound coming from the Flowmaster exhaust. I miss that sound, the stereo, and the great handling. Anyway, after a few combinations of components, and having my interior out over a dozen times, I ended up with an Alpine head and changer (which both fit in the console!), one Boston Acoustics Pro Series 8 in a ported .5 cubic foot enclosure, kenwood 3 way crossover, ADS PH15 6 channel amp, Focal woven Kevlar 5" mids, and Morel soft dome tweeters. The separates were mounted in the floor, with separate enclosures on the underside of the floor, and the last thing I did was add some Kicker Freeair 6.5" subs for midbass to the doors, but it destroyed the imaging. I wanted more "punch", but I lost most of the great "placement" that the floor mounted speakers offered. Oh well, I was bored with the truck anyway. The alarm is a Code Alarm Pro 5000, with a Super Het antenna to extend range. (Range otherwise is LACKING on Code's!) Auxillary outputs controlled both power windows up and down, remote start (magnetic reed switch on the shifter to ensure it would only start in neutral!), and the truck has solenoids to open both doors independently by remote. A second siren mounted underneath the bed, above the gas door housing, and a few piezo sirens and strobes in the cab made it a very unpleasant place to be when the alarm is sounding. Back up battery hidden in the cab. I added a power door lock motor and a magnetic reed switch to the tailgate, but they were very difficult to get consistent results from. The power door lock required some welding, which I haven't really done since high school, and the tailgate handle doesn't always return the same original position, so the "deadbolt" portion of the pdl motor doesn't always find it's correct locking position. I miss that little truck, and my younger brother Tim and I have plans to put a "modest" system with a JBL sub in the same enclosure that I had the Boston Pro 8, and we'll use the same separates in the floor. A Sony XM3040 amp should be adequate, but it won't be "earsplitting" like it was! |
