2004 Infiniti G35

Chris brought his new G35 coupe to us for some custom installation work.  These are neat cars, (rear wheel drive!), which share a platform with the Nissan 350Z.  Brembo brake calipers visible through the wheels, and a healthy V6 engine.

These cars look good even standing still!

Since the G35 has a radio/CD player integrated into the dash from the factory, Chris elected to keep that intact, and we interfaced with it using some Audio Control components.  We were able to mount the controller for the DQS EQ in the top compartment, which is hidden when it's closed.

In the trunk, you can see the Audio Control DQS and the Image Dynamics IDMAX subwoofer which we flush mounted into the side of the trunk. (The sub later tore tinseled leads and was replaced by a 12W6 that's still going strong).  Our installer Matt constructed the subwoofer enclosure of fiberglass, solid, rigid, airtight, and of the proper air volume required.  Geoff was point man on this car and did much of the amplifier installation and rack construction.  Kris and Matt ran wire.

We installed a set of Focal Polykevlar K2P components in the doors, which are simply incredible sounding speakers.  The rear shelf received a set of Focal Polyglass 690cv 6x9 speakers, with offboard crossovers.

Here's a picture of the amp rack, in which Geoff mounted Chris' Phoenix Gold Titanium 800.1 amp for the sub, and an ARC Audio 4150 4 channel amp to drive the main speakers.  The Stinger monitor caps really look cool, with their neon rings, blue LED's and blue displays.

We enjoyed working on your car Chris, thank you for being so patient!  Thank you Geoff, Kris, and Matt for all of the great work!

Update March 2005:

Chris located some parts in Japan to allow a normal aftermarket head unit to fit the dash, requiring only some minor desoldering/soldering a very small dual climate control switch onto a circuit board.  At the same time, Chris wanted to dampen the car, we think the 12W6 in the trunk might have "awaken" some parts of an otherwise pretty quiet car.  We added I think 100 square feet of mat including the insides of the fenders, roof, trunk, quarters, and the doors were dampened extensively with solid layers of mat, which required removal of window and power motor assembly from each door.  When it was done, the car had a much better damped "listening chamber", and Chris is once again rockin' out with a bunch of sweet equipment with lots of clean power.  On this recent install, Rod took a turn at Chris' car and did the dash swap and matted most of the car, with Kris getting the trunk and Matt doing tons of mat in each door.  Matt did several squares on the hood behind the hoodliner, Rod caught the trunk lid, also hidden by the trunkliner.  Chris now has cleaner sound with a 24 bit Pioneer head unit too, with good preamp voltage too.

There it is, the new dash layout.  ISO mount, as it should be, with a Nissan pocket!

Above is a picture of the passenger door mostly "before" we applied mat.  Below is after.

Thanks again Chris, keep rockin' buddy!
