2000 Boxster S
Chris called us to see if we could upgrade the sound in his Boxster S. (The "S" denotes a sport package with bigger brakes, more powerful engine, 18" standard wheels, and some other goodies making it an even nicer track-ready car than the standard Boxster!)
Now it was time to get to work. We pulled the factory "hi fi" package out, including the factory amp, head unit, and door and dash speakers.
When we were done you couldn't actually see anything different in the dash or doors. We mounted a Focal 5 3/8" Utopia subwoofer in each door, and Focal component speakers in the dash speaker location.
The Nakamichi CD400 AM/FM/CD head unit looks great in the dash, even with an amber display that matches the dash! This unit has MUCH cleaner sound than the factory head unit and adds 4 volt preamp outputs and a 24 bit D/A converter. Check out that Phoenix Gold remote bass knob mounted ahead of the shifter.
When we were all done, the Phoenix Gold Tantrum 400.4 amplifier was covered up by this custom carpeted panel which is easily removed for access.
