Aimee's Mazda 3

This really cool couple Ron and Aimee dropped by the shop once to discuss options and check out some audio upgrades.  This was Aimee's brand new, beautiful white 2009 Mazda 3.

Here it is when we started.  This was mostly work done by Charlie.  He worked hard, 'worked late, and really got down.

This was a rare case where I (Rod) got "hands-on" and built a box with an amplifier provision.  The goal was to work up a shallow subwoofer enclosure like my Honda, something that keeps the box high and tight in the trunk, out of the way...  Well, as we discussed options and budget, it looked like a single 5 channel amplifier would work well if we could integrate it with the box in the trunk.  The challenge was getting sufficient airspace for the subwoofer.  The box is a bit "tight", but is loosely stuffed with Acousta-stuf insulation and we truly coupled the subwoofer, with gasket, to the factory subwoofer opening in the rear deck.  To get a bit more "airspace" we employed a Dynaudio Variovent in the bottom of the box.  You can see the amplifier on the passenger side of this assembly. The left side is all subwoofer enclosure.

This is another angle of the trunk, the carpet that matched the trunk pretty well applied by Tony to the box and shelf, and the trunk light-which Charlie relocated from under the rear shelf to the side panel.

One more shot of Aimee's beautiful car.  The other upgrades are really hidden, but the new tint shows.  We were able to get some nice Kenwood Excelon component speakers, a Hertz EP5 amplifier, a shallow Kenwood 10" subwoofer and a JL Audio Cleansweep interface to replace the much lesser quality Bose equipment that came from the factory as the "upgraded" sound system.  Now her car sounds incredible, but retains the factory radio and speaker locations. Everything has been upgraded and coupled with a marked increase in power.  'nice tight bass response that is in proportion to the sparkling mids and highs, the super rich vocals, for all of Aimee's favorite music.  A new Viper alarm helps keep things safe. Thanks you guys!
