2007 Cayman S
A local dealership sold this car and offered to install a navigation based indash headunit to replace the original base model radio. The S is a nice package, with more power and bigger brakes than the standard Cayman-which is already a really sweet car!

Here it is in our shop when we got to work on it. Man, what a beautiful machine!

Once again, like all 2003 and newer 911's, Boxsters, and all Cayman models, replacing the indash headunit means also changing out the amplifier, since they're connected via fiberoptic MOST bus link. This is actually a good thing, since the factory amplifier (even the upgraded sound systems, Bose and otherwise) is always underpowered and results in poor sound. It's amazing how much better the factory speakers sound with a real amplifier. It's hard to believe that stock speakers can sound so good! Of course, the ultimate, is to also upgrade speakers to better quality aftermarket units...

Once again, Carl worked his magic and fabricated a cover panel that fits tightly into place and doesn't require tools for removal. This protects and covers the amplifier, without preventing easy access to the factory tool kit and tire inflator. All wiring is run cleanly and securely.

Here's a photo of the indash unit, showing the GPS navigation screen, which is made by Garmin for Kenwood. We built this custom trim bezel and painted it to match the dash. This customer now has GPS navigation, Ipod interface with music and video, and handsfree Bluetooth, all with a friendly touchscreen interface.

One final parting shot of this sweet little car. This car now has a sound system that is more on par with other aspects of the car. The next wise move would be some quality speaker upgrades and a subwoofer or two!
